Hints and tips about washing and bathing more easily

One of the best things you can do to maintain or improve your ability to get in and out of the bath or shower, is to regularly practice getting in and out of the bath (you can just do this fully clothed). Do this with someone around to make sure you are safe at first if you are not confident doing it by yourself to begin with.

It may help to have all items to hand required when in the bath (e.g. soap, sponge, flannel, towel) to make it easier to bathe.

If you would like some reassurance, you could put your mobile phone within reach near to the bath, but be careful not to get it wet.

You might want to think about having someone at home when you are taking a bath or shower, just to give you reassurance. Alternatively you could let your family know when you are getting in the bath and when you have got out of the bath so they can be there if you need them.

If you have space in your bathroom you could use a chair to sit on when you get out to get dried and dressed.

Consider using a towel material dressing gown rather than a towel if you walk from the bathroom back to the bedroom. If you struggle to get dry you could use a hairdryer to help. Alternatively think about having the heating on when you bathe so that the house is warm when you get out.
