Mouse Exercise

Make sure that you are warm before performing this exercise.

  • Sit tall near the front of a sturdy chair.
  • Place your feet slightly back and your hands on the side of the chair.
  • Lean forwards with a straight back, so that your nose is above your knees.
  • From here, push strongly down into your feet (and push with your hands on the chair if needed) to lift your bottom out of the chair, just high enough for an imaginary mouse to run under your bottom.
  • Sit immediately back down, then repeat a further 2 to 4 times.

As you get stronger, perform more repetitions (up to 8).

If you find it difficult to manage one repetition without a great deal of effort, try to find a higher chair which will be easier to get out of, or put a firm cushion under your bottom.
