Alcohol guidelines

There are no guaranteed safe drinking levels, but drinking more than the low risk guidelines amount can be damaging in the short and long term.  Men and women should not regularly drink more than 14 units of alcohol per week. 14 units is the equivalent of 6 pints of beer, a bottle and a half of wine or half a bottle of spirits.Alcohol use within the low risk guidelines is best spread evenly across the week rather than all at once. Several alcohol free days per week is a good way to cut down.

Drink less, feel better - short term benefits include:

  • Improved sleep
  • Improved concentration
  • Weight loss
  • Save money
  • No hangovers

Long term benefits include:

  • Reducing the risk of high blood pressure, stroke, cancer, and liver damage
